DWYW Live 2016
Do What You Want – Live is back in Derby for the 4th time and will be returning to the Roundhouse (Derby College).
The event which will host 80 organisations offering services to disabled people, older people and carers will see Coronation Streets Alison King (Carla Conner) make a guest appearance and will be held on Friday 28th October between 10am and 3pm.
Disability Direct have been holding the Do What You Want – Live events since 2011 with their first being in Nottingham. The events, which attract an array of stand holders, from care agencies to accessible snow boarding have been a huge success in past years with an average of 1500 disabled people attending each event.
Last years event, held at Derby Arena, hosted 140 organisations and saw nearly 2000 people attend on the day. The Charity’s biggest success, so why the move to the Roundhouse? Sally Austin, Event Coordinator explains “The 2015 event was our biggest yet, but unfortunately also one of our most expensive”. “We fund the event ourselves as we believe it is important to give local people the best possible choice of services that we can find”. “The Roundhouse has supported us with previous events and even though it will be smaller, there will be plenty of new organisations and services for local people to meet”.
The event is open to organisations who currently list on the Do What You Want directory and offer services in Derby. With over 500 listings in the Derby area, the DWYW team have to carefully select the organisations who they believe are most appropriate and offer the best services to the people of Derby. Natasha Jacobs, from the DWYW Team fills us in. “Its harder this year than usual as we have restricted space, so we want to open it up to newer organisations and services which local people may not have heard of yet”.
