Details of Organisation and Service

We are able to help clients with consumer problems in a variety of ways. This may include providing general advice on what options are available to the client, or helping the client write a letter of complaint to the organisations involved. We are also able to talk to the companies involved in order to come to some form of conclusion. The Citizens Advice & Law Centre can help clients to explore their situation and gather information on their debts. This will allow us to prepare a budget and maximise your income. We can also help you deal and negotiate with creditors and provide assistance in challenging and prioritising your debts. This process allows us to then explore a variety of options to help you resolve your debt problems. There are many issues that people face every day at work. These can range from individuals not being paid for work that they have undertaken, all the way to racial or sexual discrimination in the workplace. The current economic climate has only increased these problems, and people want to know what their rights are more than ever. Work related issues can quickly build up and cause anxiety, uncertainty, and stress, and can also lead to family or debt problems. We recognise the importance of this and have trained a generalist team of Fair Workplace Advisor’s, to provide accessible, efficient and effective advice to those with workplace issues.individuals often experience problems with their families and those closest to them. We recognise the devastating effects that these issues can have on people, and know that these problems can lead to a variety of other issues. Therefore we aim to prevent these problems by providing effective advice and guidance. At the Citizens Advice & Law Centre we are able to take on a small caseload of housing issues under the Legal Services Commission General Civil Contract. As a result, we are able to provide advice on a variety of housing related problems and show clients what options are available to them. We maintain excellent links with relevant organisations such as Derbyshire Housing Aid in order to successfully achieve this. Unfortunately we are not able to advise landlords or agents. At the Citizens Advice & Law Centre we are able to provide advice on a wide range of immigration, asylum and nationality issues. We are able to make applications for individuals who wish to enter or stay in the UK, whether this is on a temporary or permanent basis. We are also able to deal with all manner of problems that may arise during your asylum claim. In order to ensure a consistent and high quality service, our qualified solicitors deal with client cases from initial enquiry right through to hearings, appeals and possible judicial reviews. One in six people in the UK suffer from a mental health problem at any one time. This equates to approximately 7 million people between the ages of 16 and 74. There is a strong link between mental health and social disadvantage and at the Citizens Advice & Law Centre we strive to help people with mental health issues overcome these problems in a sensitive and confidential manner.Welfare benefits can be a very confusing area and many people are unaware of what benefits they are entitled to as a result of this. This means there are billions of pounds worth of unclaimed benefits in the UK every year. At the Citizens Advice & Law Centre we know how important benefits are and we work hard to help those clients who come to see us with issues regarding welfare benefits. All these services are free of charge and are open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.
