Catharsis is committed to providing arts therapies, psycho-educational arts and training to the local community and the wider region. It’s team of dedicated, innovative and successful creative arts psychotherapists provide a unique specialist service and are trusted throughout the East Midlands. Our reputation for being a leader in arts therapies delivery and training goes before us.

Catharsis was formed in 2004 and although originally a one person operation has now developed into a partnership of many state registered arts therapists, a Project Manager and Service Development Manager.  The therapeutic team includes Dramatherapists, Music Therapists and Art Therapists.  Hannah Robertson is the founder of the company, in the year 2000 she started work as a freelance drama workshop leader/adult education teacher within Her Majesty’s Prisons, amongst a variety of other locations and was employed as an arts access officer for the Derby repertory theatre.
In 2004 she became a senior lecturer at Derby University, lecturing in Dramatherapy / Creative Expressive Therapies and Theatre Arts, whilst continuing to develop the company.
She now devotes all her time and energy in practicing as a Dramatherapist, delivering training and nurturing Catharsis,
its therapists, clients and partners.Hands holding clay people

There are four distinct strands to the organisation: community, private, arts based training and professional training.  Catharsis provides a service for wide ranging sections of the community and is for all ages, from very young children through to mature members of our society.
